I hate rushed mornings.

I hate having to wake up early, give myself five minutes grace and wake up once again, only to realise that I have another 15 minutes before I’m supposed to leave the house for school. But it happens.

Even so, somehow today despite the same old Wednesday morning ritual, I managed to slow down for once and take a good look at my surroundings.

The pavements were glossy – wet from rain the night before.
The sky light blue.
It was bright, yes, but it wasn’t hot. Which is a plus!

And then I began to wonder… how many of us actually take time out to take things easy, to just breathe in the fresh air, to appreciate the smaller things that we so often overlook?
Remember how as children, the world seemed so huge yet so perfect – a huge playground for the tiny humans running around gleefully?

Okay maybe that’s just me.

Okay, maybe the perfect argument would be:

1. We don’t have time.
2. Breathe what air? All we ever breathe is polluted air (the same air that’s probably giving a sensitive old man an asthma attack somewhere in Kampong Glam)
3. We just don’t have the damn time!

I mean, it’s not a personal attack or anything. I, for one, am guilty of indulging in the rigor of rush hour and we have a hell lot of work to complete… good grief the chemical engineering dudes next to me are annoying and distracting me with their ‘saturation’ and ‘H2 is smaller than H1′ and their secondary schoolboy tantrum shit.

Anyway,
I’m just saying that there has to be a way for all of us to take a step back, breathe and enjoy those critical few seconds of freedom from any thoughts concerning work, school, responsibilities… Just a few seconds – I’m sure anyone can spare that unless he’s rushing for the final midnight train.

Only then can we bid “Good day!” with a huge smile on our faces  to a random soul out there and really actually mean it.

So relax -
because today is a good day.

Aaaaand they have been taken over by THE most annoying group of loud cheena girls.

Shit.

It’s been quite a while, my foe. You have but returned to let all hell loose and annoy the crud out of me. My nose is running like a tap.

The last time I thought I was falling sick, I actually wanted to be sick. But then my system would clear up and I’d be spritely fine the next day. This time, I refuse to fall ill, but something tells me I will. How annoying.

The last time I really fell sick was… I can’t recall. Early this year? End of last year? Two years ago?

It’s November now. Gosh. That’s fast.

Come to think about it, I can’t believe the year has gone by so quickly. In the course of an entire year, I’ve seen myself and the people around me change like the seasons (Who am I kidding? What seasonal change? We live on a tropical concrete jungle! Not that I’m complaining) – only very few staying true to how they were when I first got to know them.

I admire these few people – They’re bursting with individuality. They are their own person, without feeling the need to conform and behave according to how society expects them to behave. Which is why they don’t feel the need to change to be anyone else. There are some who don’t feel like they need to adapt to how everyone else is changing…

Which is not necessarily good, actually.

I guess it can be good and bad, but there’s always something admirable about being able to stand your ground and uphold what you truly believe in, right?

November, november. Gotta love the month I was born in.

Sorry, that was a horrible attempt at lying.

But I did find something that gave me a teensy bit more motivation to work harder and be able to one day guiltlessly squander all my cash to achieve this non-materialistic feat:

Have you guys heard of the Aurora Borealis?

Also known as the Northern Lights. Gorgeous.

Can you imagine a curtain of translucent colours illuminating the dark chilly sky one fine Winter’s night? Right above your very head! Right now I’m not doing a fantastic job at describing it for you guys, but I’m trying my best. Way. Too. Gorgeous. Todescribeinplainwords. Seriously – look it up if you don’t already know what it is.

Ever since I’d heard of this amazing out-of-this-world-phenomenon, I knew right there and then that THAT was the one thing I would have to see before I die and I’m sure millions of individuals out there share the same sentiments as I do. The Aurora Borealis is too much of a breath-taking sight to miss – But what do I know? I’ve never been to the North to look at it… Excuse me while I bawl my head off and wallow in self-pity.

One day I hope to capture the brilliance of this natural beauty through film or something.
But I probably wouldn’t do it much justice.

The fact that it’s really a gift from Mother Nature and is not man-made at all gives it quite a bit of spiritual significance – maybe close enough to be comparable to an enlightenment. *Cue holy music*
Okay, I doubt that, but it should be enough to make you feel like you’re nothing but a teeny tiny little human in a huge ass world.

For now, I guess the closest I’ll get to it is from behind the fingerprint-smudged glass screen of my MacBook notPro (unfortunately, but I’m not complaining)

But then again, it makes me wonder why people would spend so much money just for visual satisfaction.
I guess it all comes down to the simple joy of being able to see the world around us and how some things remind us that the world is not such a terrible place as a lot of people make it to be.
It’s just that some things are harder to see than others.

Too bad we take our sense of sight for granted.
The contact lens drying up on my eyeballs right now? Now that is proof.
